“If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.” (Frances Hodgson Burnett – The Secret Garden.)
A new little storybox, featuring the most divine components. Set inside an antique, early 1900’s, ladies brush box, to which I have added early 1800’s, Georgian carved bone chess piece heads as little feet. The main body contains a beautifully embroidered and painted miniature scene of a garden, with the most miniscule of well executed stitches, circa 1920’s. The tiniest of carved bone dogs stands looking in to the garden. He is Victorian, so mid 1800’s, and he couldn’t be any more beautifully carved – he is just so darling! The edges of the scene are decorated with vintage trim and ribbon in deep greens. Inside the lid, the words of the quote from above are typed on to tiny fragments of satin. These are in turn stitched with vintage silk thread, on to a wonderful fragment of antique satin from the early 1900’s, which has been beautifully ribbon-embroidered by hand to form a romantic sprig of leaves and flowers.
The whole piece stands 17.5cm tall when open, and is 10.5 cm wide.
It’s a one-off storybox sculpture, and is not one I can reproduce.
