The Nurse

Introducing “The Nurse”, Storybox Sculpture. Set inside a wonderful early 1900’s tin, decorated with Art Nouveau flowers to the exterior, and, rather amusingly and fittingly, advertising an Enema Syringe, a testament to its historical pharmaceutical roots. It tin stands open to display, and reveal it’s little treasure of an interior. An antique Nurse figure, circa 1918, made from composition, stands in front of a large red cross. The cross is compiled from fragments of a Victorian quilt, circa late 1800’s, all hand-sewn together, and the red striped background is also an antique quilt fragment, of the same era. The feet of the toy Nurse figure are surrounded by symbolic red hearts, which are vintage, and on little pin stems. A lovely quote taken from Charles Dickens book, Hard Times, is typewritten on to a vintage packing label, and rather fittingly reads “Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.” This storybox stands at 17.5cm high, and, when open, is 19cm wide.
