“Dog Days of Summer” sculpture.
Set on an upturned 1920’s ebony base valet brush, with natural bristles, reimagined as a cornfield. The little dog is sitting amongst the cornstalks, watching nearby fluttering butterflies amongst the tiny poppies. The dog is a 1930’s lead painted toy figure, and the butterflies are created from tiny snippets of 1900’s French ombre blue ribbon, bobbing on little wires. “Dog Days” is stamped on to a vintage tin fragment to the front of the sculpture. It measures 13.5cm x 7.5cm and approximately 7.5cm tall.
