“And though she be but little, she is fierce” William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Act 3, Scene 2).
The metal front plate on this little storybox is an inkwell cover from a vintage 1940’s school desk. The back-piece is a wooden box base, c 1930’s, which still has part of its original timeworn label. The wonderful wreath of flowers is a 1930’s china brooch, and peering out from inside is a tiny little late 1890’s bisque mouse, whom I have given a long pink tail, made from wound silk thread on vintage copper wire. The lilac background is a tiny fragment of silk from an early Victorian crazy quilt, circa 1850’s. The quote is stamped on to vintage tin fragments, and set on to the casing. The whole sculpture measures 11cm x 5.5cm x 3cm at its maximum points.
